How to help players adapt to fast-paced games? Cole: Do two things well: space and decision-making ability

In the NBA regular season, the Warriors will face the Suns. Coach Cole was interviewed before the game.
: Hello, coach. Yesterday, in the conversation, you mentioned that technology, AI and basketball are all changing rapidly, but this speed may also lead to more mistakes and greater physical load. You just mentioned that Butler knows how to control the game. But looking at the bigger picture, what are some of the key things that you think will help the team, help the players adapt to this pace, while still maintaining control of the game?
Cole: Yes, I think if you want to protect the ball while maintaining speed, there are two key points. The first is spacing. It's much easier to control the ball when the floor is spread out. You know, when there's enough separation between players, the passer has more options and the defense can't focus on you and force you to make mistakes.
The second is decision making. Basketball is inherently a decision-making sport, and these players have to make continuous decisions over and over again. As coaches, it’s our job to simplify their decision-making process. If you can keep the offense well spaced and establish a pattern that they're familiar with and can evolve over time, they'll be able to protect the ball more comfortably while playing faster and with fewer mistakes.
