According to the "Gazzetta dello Sport" report, the Italian Council of Ministers has approved the initiation of procedures to grant AC Milan owner Cardinale the qualification to obtain Italian citizenship for his "special contribution".

Cardinale is an American financier and the founder of Red Bird Fund. The decision was proposed by Interior Minister Piante Dosi and Justice Minister Nordio, and was supported by Foreign Minister Tajani.

The Italian Prime Minister's Office issued an announcement expressing its affirmation of Cardinale: "Cardinalai is the founder of the Red Bird Fund, which owns AC Milan. He has promoted a large number of charitable and social inclusion projects through sports, especially for young prisoners, vulnerable or at-risk groups, and has greatly promoted related public welfare undertakings."
