Will the contract extensions of Schlotterbeck and Adeyemi include release clauses? Kyle: Not that far yet

Dortmund hopes to renew the contracts of Schlotterbeck and Adeyemi in advance. There is news that the club's top management may not hesitate to break the convention and include a release clause in their new contract. Sporting director Kehl responded to the topic ahead of Friday night's game against Augsburg.
According to previous media reports, Dortmund general manager Ricken and sports director Kyle hope to renew long-term contracts with these two players and are considering setting release clauses for the two. Such terms were something Dortmund would only agree to under certain exceptions (such as Gilassi and Haaland).
One of the reasons that led to the emergence of this idea was the transfer of Gotze to Bayern in 2013 with a release clause of approximately 37 million euros. Now it seems Dortmund may reconsider this policy, as Adeyemi's agent Mendes is asking for such clauses - he has secured similar contract clauses for his client many times in the past.
The 59-year-old agent is considered a tough negotiating opponent, but the communication between him and Dortmund's senior management is very candid and based on mutual trust. Both sides are working together to find a compromise, as Adeyemi himself wants to stay at Dortmund.
As for Schlotterbeck, in addition to providing a considerable salary increase (almost doubling) and the prospect of a future captain, there is now also discussion of a release clause in his contract extension. Such a clause is of course a risky concession for Dortmund, but it can also provide a certain guarantee: for Dortmund, the worse situation is that this important player in the team does not renew his contract and leaves the team for free in 2027.
The fact is: Although the termination clause occupies an important position in the negotiations with the two players, it is not an indispensable condition. It is also true: Dortmund want to reach a deal as soon as possible. Ricken also emphasized in a recent interview with "Bild": "We will not get into panic, but we will not delay the matter until the end."
Although both Schlotterbeck and Adeyemi can well imagine staying at Dortmund, they have not set a specific deadline. The top management hopes to resolve the renewal of these two contracts before Christmas, preferably earlier. Therefore, Dortmund will most likely make exceptions for Adeyemi and Schlotterbeck.
In an interview on Friday night, Kyle responded to the personnel issues of the two players to Sky Sports Germany: "I think everyone can also understand that from my position, I am basically not a supporter of the release clause. And I have always worked hard to ensure that we have those who are fully committed to the club. It is also reasonable for players not to think about what will happen next."
Kyle added: "We acted very early on the issue of these two players and are working hard to find a fair solution and make a decision, but it is still too early to get to that point."
