World Sports: If Lewandowski is injured for more than 28 days, Barcelona can ask FIFA for daily compensation of 20,548 euros
"World Sports News" reported that if Lewandowski is injured for more than 28 days, Barcelona can seek compensation from FIFA.
According to Barcelona's official medical report, Lewandowski tore the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg. Although the specific time of the absence has not been confirmed, it may mean a month's layoff, and the possibility of missing several additional weeks cannot be ruled out.
If Lewandowski is absent for more than 28 consecutive days, Barcelona will be entitled to compensation according to the club protection plan implemented by FIFA since 2014. The plan stipulates that when a player is injured while on the national team, FIFA will pay compensation to the club starting from the 28th day of the player's injury.
The guarantee period begins when the player sets off with the national team and ends at midnight on the day when the national team assignment ends, or 48 hours after returning to the club, or leaving the national team. The coverage covers the entire process from the player's injury to obtaining medical clearance.
The maximum compensation amount paid to the club by this plan for each player per accident can reach 7.5 million euros. The specific amount is calculated based on a maximum daily compensation of 20,548 euros, accumulated up to 365 days. The annual total compensation limit of the FIFA Club Protection Plan is 80 million euros.
Considering that the injury was confirmed on Tuesday, if Lewandowski continues to be absent, the 28-day guarantee period will expire on November 10. If the player first felt unwell during the game against Poland on Sunday as the starting point, Barcelona can receive compensation from November 8. Since then, every day that passes as long as the player continues to be absent without medical clearance, the Barcelona club will receive a daily compensation of 20,548 euros.
